COLORADO CHILD CUSTODY LAWS

Colorado child custody laws state that a parent may legally give up their right to parenting by giving their baby to a designated emergency infant care provider in accordance with the state of Colorado. This law is into effect for the purpose of minimizing the amount of young mothers who abandon their newborns to dumpsters and trash cans.

Places mothers can take their newborn babies to be hospitals, fire departments, and police stations. A mother can leave their baby with personnel at one of these locations and not be charged for abandoning their baby. A woman may bring a baby to one of these locations if she is the biological parent. Colorado child custody laws clarify to the mother she intends to relinquish her parental rights and she consents to the termination of all parental rights with the child. This program also means that she is waving the right of a court hearing to terminate her relationship with the child. She will never be able to change her mind about wanting the baby back.

Colorado child custody laws wants to encourage mothers who are pregnant and make a decision that they cannot take care of their new baby to take their baby to a safe haven selected by the state of Colorado. Colorado will take immediate custody of the child and take away the burden from the mother. The state is happy to find a home for the child and plead with the mothers not to dump their baby somewhere. A baby has a right to live a healthy life and should be entitled to the opportunity of living that life. A mother should not take it away because she cannot take care of it.
